Sweet J’s Clubhouse is a 5013c nonprofit offering emotional support and motivational group sessions

We are a safe haven for all emotions be exposed, confronted so the effects of grief can be defeated

Who is Sweet J
While attending a high school trip, the young, vibrant high school senior Kim Mills received the startling news of her mother’s passing. As to be expected, Kim’s life forever changed that day. “Sweet Janice” was what those closest to her called her. But to Kim, she was her beautiful and wonderful mother.
It was easy for Kim to name her organization because she knew everything about it had to be connected to her mother and her memory. Kim’s mother was everything to her after her father passed just four years earlier. An independent and strong-willed teen, Kim believed she was old enough to be alone without guidance. But she clearly realized she still needed the teachings, wisdom, guidance, and support she was missing.
Not having her parents or any significant role model in her life, Kim went on to college and released her safely tucked away emotions in other ways learning many of life’s lessons the hard way. Today, Kim feels her past was paving the way to this road. That journey, along with the memory of her mom, lead to the creation of Sweet J’s Clubhouse. Kim says, “That was a journey I was destined to travel and take without my mom or dad. Because of that, I can now be a resource to other kids who need that outlet to feel they can overcome the effects of grief.”

Meet The Founder
Kimberly is a strong believer that if grief is exposed and confronted then the effects CAN be defeated. Her resilience is evident and admirable in her book titled, My Truth Enduring Death on Many Levels. In this book she shares her story of courage and strength. Through the pages, Kim recounts several moving experiences, including the pain of becoming parent less by the age of eighteen. This poignant story would bring most to tears but leaves the reader in awe of her incredible strength.
Kimberly began speaking at events which opened an opportunity to host a radio show on iHeartRadio on Saturday mornings. She is the Executive Director of Sweet J’s Clubhouse and Co-Founder of UECP (Urban Equine Connection Program).
Today, her purpose and passion lies in helping others overcome the pain and grief associated with the loss of a loved one by offering resources and connecting with organizations that provide grief counseling and services to children who have lost their parents.
Changing the way children deal with grief
What They’re Saying
I am a grandmom to a very special young man named John. I am very proud of him. I am thankful for Sweet J’s Clubhouse because it gives John a place to talk to other kids that have the same problems going on and reminds him that he is not alone (good mentors). This program is inspiring for both of us. Keep up the good work!
B.A
The Clubhouse has been a “Godsend.” I was very concerned about how my grandson was dealing with the absence of his mother in his life. Although it’s not a physical death, it’s certainly a loss and a constant time of mourning for him. Since being part of the Clubhouse, he is more communicative about his feelings and is very open to sharing. The Clubhouse, Ms. Kim, and the others involved are certainly like family. I am so grateful to Ms. Kim for not only having this vision but, especially, for giving it life. God bless you, Kim, and may the Lord continue to bless you with your heart’s desires
